Hi , there!
I'm Avanti and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. I got my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Texas. I have experience working at a residential treatment center for eating disorders and a college setting, so cue the heart of this practice!
I’m passionate about working with young adults who struggle with life transitions, navigating cultural expectations, relationships, work/life stress, depression, anxiety, body image concerns, disordered eating, and/or eating disorders. It’s always such an honor to get to hear someone’s story and for someone to feel safe enough to share their inner world with me. It’s something that I never take for granted and am so grateful to my clients who have let me be a part of their journey.
In my free time, you’ll probably find me at a dog park with my husband and pup, picking my next travel destination, exploring the Houston food scene, or catching up on my favorite TV shows!

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be.
When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying,
'Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.'
I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
― Carl R. Rogers, A Way of Being
My Approach
In counseling, I aim to cultivate a space that is non-judgmental so my clients feel safe sharing their inner worlds with me. My approach to treatment is client-centered, individualized, and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy principles. Basically, I meet you where you’re at and we work to add tools to your toolbox. But the heart of our work together is the therapeutic relationship, which fosters personal and interpersonal growth. So how does that work? We are often explicitly or implicitly evaluated by people in our lives and society, which affects the way we view ourselves. When we incorporate these “conditions of worth” into our perception of ourselves, it can lead to inauthenticity and low self-esteem. Life becomes more about pleasing others or being the person that you think you need to be in order to be accepted or loved. Then, imagine working with a therapist who is empathetic, genuine, and unconditionally accepts you, regardless of what you share or who you are. I strongly believe that by experiencing a non-judgmental relationship, in an environment where there are no expectations of who you’re supposed to be, you will feel encouraged to just be you and believe that you are enough. That’s where the growth happens and that's how we flourish.
